Manchester by the sea poster

Manchester by the Sea

After the death of his older brother Joe, Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) is shocked that Joe has made him sole guardian of his teenage nephew Patrick. Taking leave of his job as a janitor in Boston, Lee reluctantly returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea, the fishing village where his working-class family has lived for generations. There, he is forced to deal with a past that separated him from his wife, Randi (Michelle Williams), and the community where he was born and raised.  Winner of 66 separate movie awards (including the Oscar and BAFTA awards for best actor and best screenplay) this incredibly moving film has delighted critics and audiences alike.

Cinema

Although the prime function of the theatre is to provide stage productions, we also show films.

In 2001 Dawlish Repertory Company made a successful bid to The Lottery “Awards for All” Scheme to fund the purchase of cinema equipment. It was felt that we could offer the town a cinema; something which has been missing for many years.

The facilities in the theatre have been expanded to offer full surround sound. In January 2017 the projector was upgraded to a Hitachi 5000 lumens projector, and a digital cinema mixer was installed.

The Box Office opens on the morning of the films from 10:00am to 12:00pm for callers in person and telephone bookings.
